Working Mom

Let’s face it, if you’re a working mom then you are the busiest person in your household.

Even in a household where both parents work, the stresses of being a working mom typically are greater. Yet it’s said that a mom can only be as happy as her least happy child.

Today on Happy Working Woman we discuss the daily grind as a working mother and ways to help lesson the load. The key tactics discussed include:

  1. Self-care for yourself is a priority practice

  2. Your home needs to help (or at least not hurt) your pursuit of balance/happy (And you need to let them help you!)

  3. Let go of the ‘do-it-all’ mindset

  4. Clutch routines (morning routine + evening routine)

  5. Cellphone free-time & intentional breaks

  6. Give yourself grace!

Being a working mom myself for over a decade as well as being raised by a working mother, I know how intertwined our children's happiness is with our own happiness.

I do work at being authentically happy so that my children experience a happy and love-filled upbringing. You can’t fake happy to your kids.... you may fool yourself sometimes but you can't fool your kids.

Recently, I was thinking about a difficult situation from my workday while at home. My son Curtis noticed the look on my face and asked "What's wrong mom? You look angry."

While I don't hide from my kids that life isn't perfect, is it up to me to role model focusing on the good stuff, setting boundaries, how to 'shake it off' and be present in life. Words can't teach (or un-teach) what you role model.
