Billy Jo, or BJ as her friends call her, came to Sisters In Shape the age of 44, looking to be strong. An endurance athlete for years, she’d turned to strength training for a year and saw significant gain and shape change. BJ says, "As an older mom to young kids, I wanted to be STRONG for me and my family, so they could see a role model in front of them aspiring to be different, putting health & wellness at the forefront of our family."
With the big 45 birthday approaching in 2015, BJ set a goal to step on stage. She turned to the SiS Power Prep , an online program for fine tuning of her physique and the confidence to rock the stage. Coach Val guided BJ to reach her goal of presenting her finest physique and to motivate others to see goals through as well.
In December 2014, Coach Val started BJ on 1900 calories, much more than she was used to and a 35% protein, 45% carb, 20% fat macro split. Coach Val, with her experienced eye saw she was lean to begin with, and wanted to work for a few months to build her muscle base a bit more through challenging lifts, minimal cardio, and eating plenty of muscle building food.
BJ says, "I was determined to give this competition prep all I had. Coach Val was always available and willing to help when I 'called' on her. She was proactive and making sure I was meeting goals and answered any question I had. She would make changes in diet and exercise to make sure I was ready for the competition."
BJ was able to add some mass all over. At about 12 weeks before her competition, we added 3 days of cardio and cut calories just a bit. The final touch for BJ, as with almost every woman, was to lean out the glutes! We carb cycled for a few weeks and finished peak week out at 1700 calories. There was no need for BJ to dehydrate excessively.
This endurance athlete saw the stage as a challenge not just physically but mentally. Being confident on stage proved to be a formidable challenge for BJ. Weeks of practicing her posing under the guidance of Coach Erica had this competition newcomer, excelling with a confident stage walk, flattering poses and seamless transitions.
Just check out BJ rocking the stage! It's hard to believe this was her first time on stage!!
