Claim Your Home Gym Space to Get Motivated to Exercise Again

Remember that feeling of packing your gym bag then driving to your local gym? You were a bit tired, not really feeling the desire to workout, but you showed up to the gym, changed, and got started into your workout anyway. The lights were bright, the equipment was plentiful and setup ready for your session, music was pumping & there were other people there lifting and moving. You put your headphones in and after the second song you were warmed-up, blood flowing with oxygen, and you were MOTIVATED again to be there. You left feeling GOOD and that experience is why you showed up again next time when you’re a bit tired and not really feeling the desire to workout (again).

And now…there’s your house.

You sleep there, eat there, work there, relax there, and everything else is there. And it’s no surprise your workout mojo is feeling a bit BLAH.

You’ve got some random fitness equipment kicking around your home (or stuck in a closet) and everyday feels a bit like it’s on repeat. This is a recipe for unused at-home fitness equipment and workouts not getting done.

So is lagging motivation a foregone conclusion for the Home Gym? Nope, not by a long shot.

Busy working professionals have known the power of the home gym well before we were mandated to stay home 24/7. Why? Because consistency always wins in wellness. Saving time matters, and motivation isn’t exclusively held by the commercial gym.

The First Step

Choose an intentional space for your home gym – you then can design the perfect (for you) set-up and improve your chances of walking into a space that flips your motivation. Where else in your home is there a space just for you?  For many people our spaces are shared with a family and while what we most love in our homes is who we share it with, having a dedicated space that you set-up for your benefit, your use, your focus, your self-love is a very powerful claim on the importance of yourself in your own life.

The Next Steps…

Clear out the clutter: Move furniture, box-up supplies, donate unused items.  Clear out a space of ideally at least 10 ft x 10 ft. Then stake your claim on the space and create a motivational space that has you showing up when you’re a bit tired, and not really feeling the desire to workout.
