A Lose 40lbs by 40 Years Old Challenge

At 39 years old, Sara set a big goal for her 40th birthday: Lose 40lbs by 40.

Sara achieved her 40lb weight-loss goal over eight months. But, the transformation she loves the most? “I’m at a whole different mindset with my body now. In the past, I’ve struggled with nutrition, body image and an overall unhealthy lifestyle with food and lack of exercise.  Now I enjoy cooking healthier foods.  I now enjoy exercising because it’s been my time to reflect and to control things that I can and to let go of the things I can’t during these crazy & stressful times. I used to have a lifestyle that while fun, it wasn’t healthy for me.  I still have fun but now I also ride my bike, I run with my friend, I lift weights, I bring my exercise ball & bands when I travel, I take a break during my busy days of virtual meetings to exercise and re-set my brain. THIS is a lifestyle transformation as much as it is a physical transformation”

With gyms closed and home exercise equipment hard to buy due to COVID-19, Sara reached out to Coach Erica after seeing some of her posts in her Facebook feed. Sara wanted to develop and at-home exercise program and have more accountability.

Coach Erica helped Sara identify what fitness equipment was actually needed, and work with what Sara had available to her for fitness equipment. Sara always loved the outdoors, and so running and biking became a staple cardio activity during the beautiful summers months on the East coast.

Her job as a Superintendent in the natural resource sector during the pandemic also had new challenges and stresses. Numerous virtual meetings, managing staff remotely and overall uncertainty could become roadblocks to Sara’s commitment to her new lifestyle. But Sara used exercise as a way to clear her mind after long Teams-calls as well as to help her with stress management.

During the summer, healthy intentions often take a backseat to vacation time and summer pleasures. But Sara stayed consistent during the summer months by bringing her exercise balls & bands with her to the cottage, and even recruited friends and family to join her in some workouts and daily movement. Coach Erica created do-anywhere workouts for Sara to take with her during travels and vacation. As well, Coach Erica checked-in with Sara if more than 2 days had gone by without a workout or exercise logged. Even a strong commitment needs accountability!
